Introduction by Christopher Kevin Au // Words by FlexMami
The country’s biggest block party gets it done every damn month, but we’re especially excited for the July edition because it marks the One Day Sundays debut of the effortless slashie herself, FlexMami. Flex has been pretty hard to miss on Sydney’s club circuit as a DJ, while she also holds it down on the FBi Radio airwaves for Sidechains – but it’s her DIY and vivacious approach to clothing that has solidified her place as a Sydney style icon.
With plenty of colourful garments, shiny things and unorthodox shapes filling her wardrobe – she’s also known to drop an all gold outfit without warning – we asked FlexMami to scroll through One Day Sundays’ extensive photo galleries and pick her five favourite looks. After all, this Sunday is the perfect opportunity to stunt in your winter wardrobe, so get some inspiration below.
There are a handful of tickets left for One Day Sundays right here, and if those sell out, try your luck on the Facebook event page. Prepare for a colossal turn up when FlexMami hits the stage with fellow guests JayTeeHazard, Radge and Ziggy, while One Day’s in-house selectors Joyride, Adit and Lupi will also be spinning across two stages. For now, here’s FlexMami with the crucial fashion analysis:
To be honest, when presented with the opportunity to share my thoughts on the best looks of One Day Sunday, I scoured a fair few photo albums looking for piccies of myself. But alas, I couldn’t see one. Missed opp? Most definitely. Note to self: flank the photographer at the function when I’m not DJ-ing:
Exhibit A. One of the sweetest ladies on the block/piping hot DJ Luen came through with a strong as fuck look. The white furry cap (very J.Lo circa ‘Jenny from the Block’) was a sure fire winner on it’s own. Wait… hol’ up, hol’ up, there’s more?! *Birdman handrub* Pan down to the rest of outfit and you’ll see it’s the gift that done giveth! Extra points for the AAA lanyard flex. I don’t make the rules, I just enforce them.
An all white look is always ambitious and never for the faint-hearted… but in the words of your boy Mr Freebandz A.K.A Future, “You do what you want when you’re poppin.” Extra points awarded for the flawless faces – hair A+, highlight not to be messed with.
The crown is awarded to the queen who pulled up like SKRRT in a Versace sweatband. Tell me who else is up on this? I’ll wait. 10/10 headgear coupled with Nike Uptempos is a certified win. Special cameo from Sydney’s very own 24 Karat Kev: Glorified blogger, occasional party host and one of Nike’s Masters of Air.
Editor’s Note: Also, props to Nes (aka The Pride of Serbia) for coming through with the ethereal party fit. Peter Hayes (aka Ashfield’s Premier Turn-Up King) also in the cut looking menacing as ever.
Slick selector Sezzo Snot has come through with this cute yet functional situation. I’ve been known to veto an outfit because it wouldn’t allow me to squat down as far as I need to execute a Rihanna-level dutty wine. There are layers (figuratively and literally) to this shit, and sis has got this down.
Aye, we’ve got a win for the boys. Special shout out to One Day’s very own Adit, but I’m awarding your boy in the fresh beanie the win. I’m gonna need an ID on that top because it is simply too good.
