Taking place at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on April 7, Tupac will be joined by Electric Light Orchestra, Journey, Pearl Jam, Joan Baez and Yes as artists joining the illustrious Hall of Fame. Tupac is only the sixth hip-hop act to receive the honour, joining other luminaries like N.W.A, the Beastie Boys, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, Run-DMC and Public Enemy.
What’s more, Tupac is still making history: He’s the first solo rapper to be entered into the Hall of Fame, and has done so in his first year of eligibility: Artists can only be considered for entry 25 years after the release of their first album, with 2Pacalypse Now dropping back in 1991.
2017 is set to be a huge year for Shakur, with the induction to be supplemented by the biopic All Eyez On Me, where the rapper will be portrayed by Demetrius Shipp, Jr. The film will drop on June 17th, on what would have been the rapper’s 47th birthday. Listen to some of his classics below, and prepare for the big screen action hitting theatres soon:
