The crime, in which over $14 million of jewellery was stolen from Kardashian’s luxury residence, generated headlines worldwide and even speculation that it was a publicity stunt. However, DNA evidence at the scene has now led police to arrest 14 men and three women over the robbery, while one suspect was also found attempting to sell a stolen item to another party.
Police union spokesman Luc Poignant said that in the type of network uncovered, “you have the robbers, and then the one who is going to sell off the goods, the one who puts people in touch, the stone cutter, etc… It didn’t take a lot of time. It took three months, and three months in this kind of investigation is quite short.”
Reports state that those arrested included veterans with ties to organised crime, among them a 72-year-old. In accordance with French law, suspects can be held for 96 hours before they are either charged or released. Jean Veil, Kardashian’s French lawyer, called the arrests “a great satisfaction… These arrests are a nice surprise because we might be able to find the jewels.”
Kardashian has kept a low profile since October, but has slowly been making a return to social media. You can see Kardashian briefly discuss her ordeal in the Keeping Up With the Kardashian trailer below:
