We lost count last night when we hit The J in Noosa for the premiere of Jaleesa Vincent and Sun Bum’s new film Vampires Surf, co-directed by Jaleesa and Luka Raubenheimer.
The place was absolutely packed full of freaks, ghouls, ghosts and (of course) vampires, all lining up for a first look at the surf-horror crossover film. A Q&A with Jaleesa and Luka, hosted by Tommo, gave us even more juicy details about the behind-the-scenes process.
So what can we actually tell you about the film? Hmmmmm. Let’s just say it takes a mortal potion to allow three surfing vampires to leave the shadows and start surfing during the day, becoming music icons along the way. Throw in some seriously good surfing from Caity Simmers, Frankie Harrer and Kobe Hughes, a mysterious Blood Moon and a whole lot of wonderfully weird moments, and you’ve got yourself one hell of a surf film.
If you missed the Noosa premiere, don’t go sharpening your wooden stakes just yet. Vampires Surf is heading off on a global tour, with screenings in Biarritz, London, Paris, New York and LA before returning to Australia for shows in Byron Bay, Sydney, Melbourne and Victoria.
