Party & Bullshit

Last time Josh Young visited Australia in January, it was one of his final moments as one half of Flosstradamus.

The influential group – who helped bridge the gap between bass-heavy electronica and Southern rap – has since continued on as a solo project, with Young also working as a lone wolf under the YehMe2 moniker. Following on from a slew of mixtapes which continue to explore the ever-expanding trap realm, YehMe2 announced his debut Australian tour, playing intimate club shows along the East Coast.

Sydney’s edition at Hudson Ballroom sold out convincingly, and with Ebony Boadu and Swick warming up the decks in the evening, YehMe2 took the stage solo to a sweaty, ravenous audience. We’ve been to countless club nights at Hudson, but it hasn’t ever felt like this – and YehMe2 wasted no time in delivering 80 minutes of hyperactive, synth-heavy belters to a clamouring crowd. Bangers from emerging rap favourites like Cardi B and XXXTENTACION were melded with relentless electronic drops, and by the time ‘Grove St Party’ by Waka Flocka Flame hit the speakers, we were basically melting.

His set included a dedication to wife Liz Smart in the audience, who grew up in Sydney’s Western suburbs – which made the show feel like a homecoming of sorts. Judging from this wild reception and hard-hitting performance, we’re inclined to say that YehMe2 is gonna be back soon, bigger and better:
