In a world of viral videos and endless scrolling, it feels a little weird to discover an old clip of the then-funniest man in Hollywood taking the piss out of the then (and possibly still) biggest star in movies. But here we are; somehow this one slipped through and it’s fucking gold. Ben Stiller pretending to be Tom Cruises stunt double…
The video, shows Stiller donning a wig and sunglasses to stand in for Cruise during the filming of Mission: Impossible II. Cruise, who is notorious for doing his own stupidly death-defying stunts and being a bit of a maniac on set, is happy to play the part of Hollywood icon in the skit, which was made for the MTV Movie Awards back in 2003.
Perhaps this was what got Cruise over the line to be a part of Stiller’s Tropic Thunder – a rare moment in the last 20 years where the scientologist has done anything outside of starring in big-budget action films and berating people for not being covid safe on set. Either way, this video is the gold standard. Watch it above and try not to join in the maniacal laughing at the end.
