Almost ten years since the series finale of Breaking Bad, the fate of one of its characters has been revealed in the show’s more recent spinoff, Better Call Saul. Huell Babineaux – who appeared across the original series’ five seasons as Saul’s bodyguard – was last seen being duped and taken to a safe house by Hank and Gomez.
While Huell’s whereabouts in the aftermath of that preantepenultimate episode had remained a mystery, audiences were given an update on the henchmen in last night’s episode of Better Call Saul. Aptly titled Breaking Bad, the latest episode of the prequel series contains a scene in which Saul – played by Bob Odenkirk – asks his ex-assistant about Huell’s whereabouts.

“I guess back home in New Orleans,” the assistant replies, “DEA held him under false pretences or something. Last I heard, he walked.” In response, fans took to Twitter to share their relief about the Huell update, joking that he finally left the safe house.
Speaking of the reveal in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the episode’s director Thomas Schnauz said the fan-favourite character’s escape from the life of crime “felt like the easiest” decision. “I feel like I wanted somebody from the universe to get away and kind of be happy…They had set Huell up with the fake photograph and they lied to him about the circumstances, so he felt like the easiest one to be able to walk away from all this,” Schnauz said.
Tonight, I was relieved to learn that Huell is not in that safe house still. pic.twitter.com/JpXMMtOtYW
