AMC’s That Dirty Black Bag gives you the grisly answer minutes into the first episode, setting the brutal tone for the next eight instalments. The series tells the story of the haunted citizens of Greenvale, whose past glory veils the town like a layer of dust. As our players become entangled in a web of greed and self-ruin, they inevitably collide in an explosion of grindhouse action. However, scratching below the dirt and dried blood lies an exploration of human nature. Each character we meet lugs their past traumas around like a…dirty black bag, quite literally in the case of one-half of our lead protagonists.
On the series saddle sits Dominic Cooper. The English actors’ film credits read like an endless list of pop-culture bounties. From playing the charming genius Howard Stark in the MCU, the enigmatic Jesse Custer in Preacher, and Sky Rammand in the global phenomenon Mamma Mia! – doing ABBA proud in both instalments. For the role of sheriff Arthur McCoy, Cooper has shined his oak-coloured boots, tilted his cowboy hat, and cocked his six-shooter to bring order to the wild west. In That Dirty Black Bag, Cooper imbues McCoy with a palpable swagger marred by unresolved emotional scars. The Thespian turns in a performance brimming with charisma, drama, and buckets of blood to spare!
