Donald Glover and Maya Erskine are set to step into the shoes of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie in the upcoming Prime Video series, Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Serving as a spinoff to the action-packed 2005 film that starred Pitt and Jolie in the titular roles, Glover and Erskine are ready to bring a fresh perspective to the world of undercover, married spies. This time, however, it doesn’t appear that the couple are pitted (excuse the pun) against each other…
The series, is scheduled to premiere on February 2, 2024, and explores the lives of John and Jane Smith, played by Glover and Erskine, as they navigate the challenging intersection of marriage and espionage. The official show description sets the stage for the fun ride:
“Two lonely strangers land a job working for a mysterious spy agency that offers them a glorious life of espionage, wealth, world travels, and a dream brownstone in Manhattan. The catch: new identities in an arranged marriage as Mr. & Mrs. John and Jane Smith. Now hitched, John and Jane navigate a high-risk mission every week while also facing a new relationship milestone. Their complex cover story becomes even more complicated when they catch real feelings for each other. What’s riskier, espionage or marriage?”
