The Suicide Squad actor admitted that his wife still makes fun of his reaction to the animal to this day…

Idris Elba has recalled the moment when a rogue bat interrupted shower sex with his wife, Sabrina Dhowre. In an interview with Men’s Journal, the English actor revealed that, while shooting a movie in South Africa, he and his wife took to the bathroom for some “morning romance,” before a wild interloper crashed the steamy affair.

“I was shooting in Limpopo. My wife was there and we were going to have some fun in the shower…She got in, then I followed her and closed the door. But then I looked down and clinging for life to the inside shower door handle was this bat,” the actor recalled.

Elba, who is currently promoting his new film Beast, went on to explain the fallout of the animal encounter, which resulted in him fleeing the scene while Dhowre remained in the shower. “I hate bats,” he said, “It was freaky as fuck. I jumped out of the shower so fast. My wife makes fun of me about it to this day — ‘You left me in the shower with a bat!'”.

While the actor is no stranger to wild animals (his latest film centres around a lion tracking the whereabouts of his character), Elba revealed that his phobia of bats was borne out of a trip to Australia in 2019, during which he encountered the animals on a daily basis. “These big fruit bats would soar by the place I was staying every evening at around five,” Elba said. “They were huge and long. Horrifying. Not like the one in the shower. That guy was tiny, but still.”

The news comes after Elba’s recent tease of a forthcoming film for DC. During an interview with entertainment reporter Erik Davis, the actor hinted that he’s “got a really big thing cooking for DC right now,” with many fans theorising that the movie will be a spin-off story for the character of Bloodsport, whom he portrayed in DC’s Suicide Squad franchise.
