The new doco is being produced by Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara…

Four years since the release of his love letter to skating, Mid90s, Jonah Hill is back in the director’s seat for his new Netflix doco, Stutz. Centred around Hill’s relationship with his psychiatrist, Phil Stutz, the project sees the pair recount Stutz’s celebrated career and investigate mental health, therapy and the intricacies of the therapeutic process.

It’s a pretty unique premise, one which Hill fully acknowledges as he admits that it may not come across as he had planned it. Still, it’s the most vulnerable we’ve seen the Academy Award nominee since he burst onto the scene in 2008’s Superbad, with the trailer showing him in session with Stutz as they touch on the importance of therapy and Hill’s past struggles

It culminates with Stutz proclaiming, “This is either the greatest documentary ever made or the worst”. Considering that fellow Hollywood heavyweights, Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara, are producers on the project, and that Hill’s debut directorial feature Mid90s was a total home run, our money is on the former. Stutz hits Netflix on November 14th. Check out the trailer below.
