There are heaps of actors that push it to the max for their films. Whether it be putting their reputations, bodies and even lives on the line for their roles, they almost always come through with a performance for the ages, and Jonah Hill’s portrayal of Donny in The Wolf Of Wall Street is a perfect example of just totally giving yourself to a role.
However, understandably so, the one part he definitely didn’t commit to was the countless scenes of his character snorting cocaine, instead opting for ‘Fake Cocaine’ (AKA Vitamin D powder). You’d think that’d be the safe bet, that his body was absolutely love him for the inflow of vitamins. But of course, you can have too much of a good thing, so much so that he ended up with bronchitis that stuck around for months, eventually hospitalising him.
Appearing on Any Given Wednesday way back in 2016, he opened up on the ordeal, saying “I did so much fake cocaine in Wolf Of Wall Street I got bronchitis for three weeks. I had to be hospitalised.
“It’s vitamin powder but it doesn’t matter because if you ingest that much matter into your lungs, you will get very sick,” while hilariously adding “We were literally doing fake coke for, like, seven months, every day. I never had more vitamin D in my entire life; I could have lifted a car over my fucking head.”
But it didnt seem to affect his performance, which ended up garnering him an Oscar nomination. Opening up about how he got into character, he said “It’s interesting pretending to be on drugs.
“I’ll use music. I’ll make a playlist for every scene, so I’ll try to make, like, music that [makes me feel] jittery and chaotic… and then just drink a ton of coffee and Red Bull.”
So method. Check out his best moments from the 2013 film below.
