Manly, you’re in for a bloody treat this October.

No, that’s not a Halloween reference, we’re talking about a new festival from James ‘Jamo’ Willis, Joel Parkinson and a crew of mates that combines all of our favourite things: live music, surfing, art and food. Feels like there’s a lot to take in here, so hold onto your hats for this topline rundown:

Running across three weekends from October 16th to November 1st, the inaugural Surf + Sound will take over Manly Wharf and the surrounding area, with Skegss, The Whitlams, Skunkhour, The Beautiful Girls, GANGgajang, Winston Surfshirt and Mudhoney among the first acts announced.

There’ll also be plenty happening outside of the music, with Jeremyville curating a free three-week art trail around the Wharf, a stack of food and dining experiences, and five Aussie artists transforming Classic Defenders into moving works of art.

Then, for the final weekend, things shift down to Manly Beach for the Surf + Sound Boardrider Battle. Clubs from around Australia will go head-to-head across men’s, women’s and under-18 divisions, while Parko, Layne Beachley and Occy are already locked in for a Legends Heat.

The festival was dreamt up by Jamo alongside Parko, Adam Flaskas, Paul Henry and Lachie Given, with the crew looking to build something that taps into the surf, music, art and general culture that’s been part of Manly forever.

And you know the LWA team will also be on board shooting and hanging out across the inaugural Surf + Sound.
