All hail King Kunta.

If getting a salad named after him, dropping the most streamed album of all time for his latest LP ‘To Pimp a Butterfly’ and generally being the biggest dude wasn’t enough of an accolade for Kendrick Lamar, he was awarded the ’35th Senate District’s Generational Icon Award’. The district includes Compton – where Lamar grew up and frequently raps about.

At the least boring day in the Senate ever, K. Dot was awarded the by California State Senator Isadore Hall III:

“Mr. Lamar has gone from a local Compton young boy to become a multi-platinum, Billboard chart topping, two-time Grammy award winning musician. An incredible achievement for anyone 27 years old – but Mr. Lamar has not let fame change him. If you visit Compton, and I suggest my colleagues do, Mr. Lamar is a familiar face, giving back to his community that raised him. He has donated hundreds to support sports programmes, after school programmes, music programmes, to help keep students off the streets and in the classrooms. Mr. Lamar has not only given voice to a new urban generation, but is demonstrating what it is to work hard, do well and give back to his community.”

All hail:
