LET OUR POWERS COMBINE, GODDAMMIT: Leonardo DiCaprio is apparently reviving crucial nineties cartoon Captain Planet for the big screen.

Unless you didn’t have a childhood, here’s a reminder: Captain Planet is the animated series about the five Planeteers who seek to protect the environment and save the world from pollution-laced villains, with magic rings that represent the elements of nature. Joining their powers, they summon a green-haired hero named Captain Planet who usually flies in and saves the day in spectacular fashion.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, DiCaprio’s production company named Appian Way will team up with Paramount to bring Captain Planet to the big screen, with the script set to be co-written by Jono Matt and Glen Powell. The fact that DiCaprio wants to revive this cartoon in particular is no surprise, given that he has dedicated much of his spare time to environmental activism – whether that be through the WWF or his own Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation.

While the OG Captain Planet only ran for two years in the early nineties, it was enough to leave us with a lifetime of action-packed memories and a constant reminder to throw your rubbish in an actual rubbish bin. Life skills. And let’s not forget that Captain Planet still holds the gold medal for having the GOAT theme song! Let’s keep our fingers crossed for more information about the film soon:
