Chris Hemsworth must be on top on top of the world…
In news that’s bloody amazing for the Aussie film industry and economy as a whole, Marvel Studios is said to be setting up shop down under, and they’ve chosen a banger of a city as well.
Starting to plant roots and set up headquarters in Sydney, the superhero studio is allegedly planning to operate here for at least the next five years. Even Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige is planning to move here, not only to help set up the new headquarters but also oversee production for the hotly anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy 3, Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel and the Black Panther sequels.
An insider from within Marvel explained the decision and the reasoning behind it, stating “There is nowhere in the world where films can be shot in the way they can be here in Australia. Sydney is the perfect place for the Marvel blockbusters because most are essentially shot in front of a green screen. The whole studio is essentially transporting itself from the US.”
Makes sense, especially when you consider how bad COVID numbers still are in the US compared to us in Australia, and the fact that Moore Park’s Fox Studios in Sydney would be just perfect for filming Hollywood blockbusters.
The news comes as Chris Hemsworth was recently seen filming the upcoming Thor movie in Sydney, along with co-stars Natalie Portman, Matt Damon and Chris Pratt. It seems we’re truly in no short supply of Hollywood heavyweights in Sydney at the moment, with Hemsworth partying with Matt Damon and Idris Elba around Barangaroo over the weekend as well.

Regardless, it’s a super exciting time, and the influx of blockbusters is set to do wonders for the economy, already creating more than 11,800 industry jobs and expected to boost the economy by a whopping $1.47 billion.
