As we head into winter, we’re closing our eyes and imagining ourselves on the other side of the world, sunbaking and drinking cocktails with tiny umbrellas in them.

That’s basically what happens in this Refinery29 editorial starring Modern Family favourite Ariel Winter. Growing up in an international spotlight meant that Winter was subject to plenty of online criticism, but the 19-year-old actress says she’s learned to overcome her body image issues, becoming a spokesperson for self-love and acceptance. Now, she appears in Refinery29 to show her beach body in a summer-friendly shoot.

“I went through a lot of hate online, so I tried to change myself for a really long time. But people just kept hating on me no matter what I did… I decided that instead of pleasing these other people, I’ll just spend that time pleasing myself. Those people are going to be rude to me regardless of what I do, so I should just try and be happy with what I am,” she says.
