With another interdimensional threat on the loose, Hawkins can’t catch a break…

After news that it’s fourth, two-volume outing will be its last, Stranger Things has today released the first trailer for long-awaited return. As Netflix’ flagship sci-fi series, the show has a few cliffhangers to tie-up before its finale, most of which are addressed in the clip featuring the full cast from Millie Bobbie Brown’s Eleven to David Harbour’s Hopper (yes, he’s alive).

The trailer follows the Hawkins nerd gang in the aftermath of season three’s mall-based disasters, with Max mourning the death of her brother and Eleven coming to terms with her weakened powers. Despite their relocation to California, the Byers’ appear just as involved in their old town’s supernatural shenanigans, with an ominous threat from the Upside Down promising new threats to the perpetually cursed Hawkins.

Unlike previous seasons, the interdimensional monster in Stranger Things 4 appears incredibly human-like, save for some slimy flesh and an army of pterodactyls. Also unique to this season, much of the main cast can be seen venturing into the Upside Down, with Nancy, Steve and Dustin all seen traipsing the desolate underworld. “You’ve broken everything,” a new beast can be heard narrating, “your suffering is almost at an end.”

Stranger Things 4 Vol. 1 premieres May 27th on Netflix. In the meantime, you can get a taste of what’s to come in the trailer above.
