“Whilst Homer Simpson is a fictional character, his injuries are very real.”

Whoever said science isn’t fun needs to check their records, because the tireless work of mathematicians in LA has today revealed a fact we never knew we needed; Homer Simpson’s medical bills would cost over $201 million.

The study, which scoured through Homer’s 33 season-long run as The Simpsons patriarch, recorded and quantified the average cost of all 50 of Homer’s accidents, spanning from severe (and expensive) brain damage bills, to that one time he was poisoned by a 10-foot sandwich.

The accidents law group counted head injuries, concussions, loss of consciousness and radiation exposure as Homer’s most costly injuries, theoretically setting the Simpsons back around $170 million. The study also found that Homer’s most common accidents were falls, with 10 of the 50 injuries resulting in broken bones (costing him an estimated $48,000 a pop).

Speaking of their studies, the Downtown L.A. Law Group said that Homer’s medical bills should serve as a reminder of the importance of health insurance (Medicare is quaking), arguing that they “carried out this research to hopefully share the importance of having adequate medical insurance as the costs for injuries can be extremely high.”
