Ending on a bang…

Sending his fans into a proper tailspin in the cheekiest way possible, UK funnyman and ultimate savage Ricky Gervais has given us a much-awaited updated on the third and final season of After Life. You’d probably think for the fuss this has caused he’s probably dropped a release date or major spoiler, but it’s not even that, rather, announcing that he’s finished the second draft of the third season.

Taking to his socials with the simple caption of “Cheers”, Gervais posted a pic with the draft of the new season, cheekily grinning into the camera as if he’s fully aware of the pandemonium he’s about to cause.

It looks like it’ll still be a little while before the season hits our screens, but it’s good to get an update from Gervais after a pretty long period of radio silence. Sadly however, this will indeed by the last season, with Ricky stating to The Sun “I’ve already made my mind up there just won’t be a fourth. You never say never but you put those things out there to make you remember because it’s tempting, it’s very tempting.”

“The audience think they want another one but they don’t know, they’re not sure, so you’ve got to be careful.”

If you’re not familiar with the show (where have you been the past couple years?!) it follows a widow named Tony (played by Ricky) who’s struggling to come to peace with the death of his wife, all the while struggling to maintain relationships with his nearest and dearest. It’s definitely one of Ricky’s darkest and most relevant projects to date, the show’s commentary on mental health and death really resonating with fans across the world. We’re not kidding, tens of thousands of have already liked, re-shared and commented on the post, saying things like ‘Finally something good to come from 2020′ and ‘Can’t wait to be a blubbering mess again.’

One good thing to take away from the third season being the last is old mate Tony will probably find some peace by the end, and we won’t have to watch him suffer for the next however many seasons. Regardless, we’re gonna miss the show and Ricky in it, but all good things must come to an end.
