Let’s be honest, we’re probably going to experience another seven heatwaves before summer ends for another year, so here’s some pools in Sydney worth visiting – especially if you hate sand.

ANDREW BOY CHARLTON POOL

Andrew Boy Charlton Pool

1C Mrs Macquaries Rd, Sydney

As you approach Andrew Boy Charlton pool, prepare to reignite memories of being completely buckled at Field Day as you pass The Domain on your left, and you can even get cultured a few minutes later with the Art Gallery of NSW on your right. Arriving a ABC, you’ll find an outdoor pool with plenty of tanning space for those who want to be lathered in coconut oil. Speaking of coconuts, the cafe also offers some fancy lookin’ coconut ice blocks to help you cool down. Bonus extra-cirricular activity: Wave to all the rich people in yachts who drive past the pool’s beautiful views of Sydney Harbour. One day, we’ll be the ones acting smug in those damn yachts.

504 Victoria Rd, Ryde

Have you ever wanted to sit in a sauna and discuss politics while perspiring for a lengthy period of time? Make your dreams come true at Ryde, where you’ll find a sauna alongside a spa, a giant fuck-off indoor pool, kid-friendly spaces and water slides for those in need of an adrenaline-fuelled aquatic turn up. There’s even a wave simulator if you want to practice your board-riding skills before tackling your local beach like a young Kelly Slater. You will get there one day! Heated options make this one a splendid choice for winter, too.

ICEBERGS

1 Notts Ave, Bondi Beach

If you’re privileged enough to step foot in the Eastern Suburbs holy land that is Bondi, then going to Icebergs is a no-brainer. I went to the bar once and they were playing super sexy minimal house music and there were also expensive cocktails. I’m into it. Just below the bar is Icebergs’ pool – perhaps the most Instagrammed location other than the Harbour Bridge – where you can do laps while overlooking the iconic yet very crowded sands of Bondi Beach. After that, head down to Campbell Parade and queue up for a Boost Juice or something.

PRINCE ALFRED POOL

105 Chalmers St, Surry Hills

Prince Alfred’s proximity to Central station makes it a very convenient one for those travelling by train, and the plethora of yellow umbrellas around the pool is aesthetically pleasing. You can camp up on the grassy knoll for an entire day, making Prince Alfred a little slice of paradise bordering the madness of the CBD. Also nearby are basketball courts, tennis courts and outdoor workout areas where you can do pull-ups shirtless while making really loud grunting noises in front of businesspeople walking home from work.

Do we really need to explain to you why you should attend Wet’N’Wild? Really? Okay, take a deep breath: Justice Crew are playing a gig here on January 27. Huge.
