If you’re old enough to remember the heydays of indie rock, when acts like The Vines, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and The Hives dominated the radio and were seemingly at the epicentre of pop culture, you’re probably going to feeling some intense pangs of excitement around Cody Smyth’s exhibition.
Taking over the Verona Rooftop on Oxford St in Paddington, The Strokes: The First Ten Years will see the space’s walls adorned with Smyth’s photos of the band that lead the rock and roll revival of the early 2000s. “This exhibition will showcase intimate moments with the band from the early days and offer fans a rare insight to images that have never been seen before.” Smyth says of the free exhibition.

A longtime friend of the band, who recently won a Grammy for their Smyth was afforded the opportunity to shoot the band during those early days “Cody has been with us since the very beginning―always a motivator, forever a friend. Along the way he captured some very special moments. I didn’t even know he’d brought along his camera.” The Strokes guitarist, Nick Valensi, says.
If you were like me and had one of Cody’s posters on your wall when you were 13, it’s pretty much a must-attend event. So dust off your skinny jeans and vintage leather/tweed jackets and make sure you get there!
