Oscar winner, Marvel sweetheart and all around funny guy Taika Waititi is linking up with Netflix to write, direct and executive produce not one, but two series for Roald Dahl’s classic Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and the inner ten year old within us is screaming with delight.

One series will focus on the characters from the 1964 children’s book whilst the other will focus on the Oompa Loompas, which honestly sounds so sick. It seems Netflix really understands what to do with the source material, saying that the shows will preserve the same playful essence from the original story “while building out the world and characters far beyond the pages of the Dahl book for the very first time.”
After signing a deal with Dahls estate in 2018, Netflix seems to have plenty more Dahl adaptations in the worlds, looking to develop stories like Matilda, The BFG, The Twits, and more. It also seems that Netflix is super stoked to have Taika onboard, commenting that “If Dahl had created a character of a filmmaker to adapt his work, I’m pretty sure he would have created Taika”, said Netflix’s Vice President of Original Animation Melissa Cobb.
Honestly she’s probably right, Taika is one of the quirkiest and most unique directors working in Hollywood right now, and we can’t wait to see what he does with the children’s classic…
