Do not poke the bear…

Starring Moonlight actor Trevante Rhodes in the titular role, the teaser for the eight-part series shows the boxing legend’s chaotic life in and out of the ring. It seems that the project will definitely focus more on the latter, however, with a large portion of the trailer focusing on his struggles with the law, tumultuous personal relationships and his struggles in staying sane amongst his newfound fame.

Despite the distinct focus on the more nitty-gritty aspects of Tyson’s life, the 55-year-old is reportedly not at all involved or supportive of the series, with the former World Champion recently calling for a boycott of Hulu in a now-deleted Instagram post, writing:

“This announcement on the heels of social disparities in our country is a prime example of how Hulu’s corporate greed led to this tone-deaf cultural misappropriation of the Tyson life story. The real Mike Tyson authorized story is in development and will be announced in coming days. Hulu to announce stealing a black athlete’s story during Black History month couldn’t be more inappropriate or tone deaf. #boycotthulu #corporategreed.”

The “real” Mike Tyson series is currently set to star Oscar winner Jamie Foxx in the lead role, with legendary director Martin Scorsese and Tyson himself serving as executive producers. No word yet on when it’ll be released, but given that Foxx first teased the project on Ellen in 2015, we’re guessing it’s not too far off.

In other Mike Tyson news, the champ has addressed the viedo of him beating the crap out of a guy on a plane. Read about it here.
