Adam Driver is back front and centre with his latest role, the two-time Oscar nominee starring alongside Don Cheadle and Greta Gerwig in the sardonic new comedy, White Noise. Based on the 1987 novel by Don DeLillo, the film follows Driver’s college professor Jack Gladney and his wife Babette (Gerwig) and their family of seven’s life in a small, midwestern town. The family’s life soon takes a turn for the worse however when a nearby chemical leak causes “The Airborne Toxic Event” and forces his small enclave to evacuate.
The trailer shows the family’s hilarious ordeal in escaping their home as they encounter extreme weather events, traffic jams, serial road ragers and basically every obstacle imaginable. It makes for quite a gripping premise, which makes the fact that the film was once considered “unfilmable” by numerous studios and directors all the more surprising. Unsurprisingly, Driver and his band of castmates all give enticing performances in the two-and-a-half minute teaser, bouncing off each other with plenty of comedic chemistry (with the scene of their car floating down the river at 1:41 being a prime example).
No doubt the film will be well worth the wait. White Noise hits Netflix on December 30th. Check out the full trailer below.
