After over three decades of waiting, Eddie Murphy has finally come through hard for his day ones, releasing the trailer for Coming 2 America, the much-anticipated sequel to the 1988 comedy smash Coming To America. The OG cast is set to make a comeback as well, with Murphy as Prince Akeem, Arsenio Hall as Semmi, James Earl Jones as King Jaffe, Shari Headley as Lisa, and Paul Bates as Oha.
It’s got a bunch of newcomers as well, with stars like Tracy Morgan, Teyana Taylor (amazing casting), Leslie Jones and numerous more set to join the legendary series.
An official synopsis for the film reads ‘Set in the lush and royal country of Zamunda, newly-crowned King Akeem (Eddie Murphy) and his trusted confidante Semmi (Arsenio Hall) embark on an all-new hilarious adventure that has them traversing the globe from their great African nation to the borough of Queens, New York – where it all began.’
It’s a pretty apt description for the trailer, which sees Murphy and co. engaging in the hilarious tropes and pastimes of American culture as they venture through the cornucopia that is the New York borough of Queens. Speaking on the sequel, Murphy said “This is the perfect time to return to Zamunda because it’s been a while since we’ve had a great comedy that everybody can enjoy. Zamunda is a very funny place, and the world needs that right now.”
He’s definitely right. The film is set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on March 5. Watch the full trailer below.
