Elon Musk made his hotly-anticipated (and somewhat feared) Saturday Night Live debut over the weekend, and it definitely made waves. From starting his SNL monologue by admitting he has Aspergers to making countless Dogecoin jokes and plugs (more on that in a second) he really memed the hell out of himself for the gig.
But his sketches are yet to get some proper shine; our favourite being the one where he plays an even more scheming version of Wario who’s on trial for the murder of Mario, specifically after spinning him out with a banana peel during a Mario Kart race (we’ve all done it).
Naturally, the scene sees Musk get full hostile witness, taking jabs at his cross-examiner. He even reveals at one point that Mario’s brother Luigi has been having an affair with Mario’s wife Princess Peach (who’s played by Musk’s own wife Grimes). And to give credit where credit is due, Grimes had some solid moments throughout the sketch, stealing the scene with her comedic timing as she had her fellow co-stars on their toes the entire time.

However, with Musk’s appearance came a pretty big dive for Dogecoin, the cyrptocurrency that’s been surging every day for the past couple weeks. It dropped by nearly 40% after Musk’s SNL gig, as according to Forbes. It was expected to surge to a crazy amount during the episode, but the fact that Musk mentioned it during his opening monologue as well as plugging it on Weekend Update didn’t seem help. Hilariously, at one point, co-host Michael Che asked Musk if Dogecoin was a “hustle,” to which Musk meekly responded, “yeah, it’s a hustle.” Understatement of the century baby.
Pretty crazy. Check out other bits of Musk’s SNL appearance below.
