One of the most underrated boxers of all time?

Despite being predominantly known for his iconic ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ fight with Muhammad Ali in 1974, legendary boxer George Foreman had an eventful life in and out of the ring. Now, his story is set to be told in the upcoming biopic, titled Big George Foreman, with the first trailer for the upcoming epic being released this morning.

Clocking in at nearly three minutes long, the trailer for the forthcoming epic shows Foreman’s (played by Khris Davis) life in and outside of the ring, following him from his early childhood to the peak of his fighting career and his decision to become a church preacher. His eventual comeback to the ring is also covered, with his reclaiming of the World Heavyweight Championship in his late 40s shown with plenty of humour and wit. Also starring in the film is Forest Whitaker as Foreman’s coach Broadus, who’s strained relationship with the boxer is well-covered throughout the teaser’s runtime.

What most boxing fans are no doubt hoping for is for the big screen recreation of Foreman’s feud with Muhammad Ali and their final match in in Kinshasa, Zaire (now Democratic Republic of the Congo). Although it is certainly touched upon in the teaser, the focus appears to be far more centred on Foreman’s personal life and his relationship with his faith and family. Here’s hoping the boxing purists and fans of the sporting legend will be equally satisfied when the film is out in its entirety on April 28th. For now, check out the full trailer below.
