The film got a six-minute standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival…

’90s kids were overjoyed when it was announced that The Mummy actor Brendan Fraser was making his big screen return in The Whale, the former Hollywood hunk finally copping his first starring role in over a decade. It’s reportedly gone down a treat at its various screenings so far, most notably getting a six-minute standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival in September.

And now, we’ve gotten the first trailer for the upcoming film. Based on the Samuel D. Hunter play about a High School English teacher suffering from an eating disorder, the film sees Fraser’s Charlie front and centre as he struggles with his mortality and reconnecting with his daughter, Ellie (played by Sadie Sink).

Clocking in at a total of one minute long, the teaser gives an elusive preview to all of the above as we get out first look at a transformed Fraser. He also delivers a mini-monologue about human nature while backed by an anthemic score, in what’s a sneak peak of Fraser’s long-awaited return to the big screen. Check out the full trailer below:
