The new teaser sees Reeves’ Neo begin to remember his former life in and outside of the Matrix, from Agent Smith to his love-interest Trinity and even his kung fu chops (which he puts to plenty of use throughout the three minute teaser). Adhering to the themes of the previous movies, director Lana Wachowski interweaves such recollections with the concept of ‘Deja Vù,’ which, if you’re not familiar, is caused by a glitch in the Matrix; and subsequently treats us to plenty of scenes from OG trilogy.
The trailer is also balanced out nicely with plenty of scenes from inside and outside the Matrix as well, along with more screen time between Neo and Trinity (and a cameo from Jada Pinkett Smith’s Nairobi). It seems the two are in quite the sticky situation in both worlds however, being kept prisoner in the Machine World while being hunted down by Agents in the Matrix (they really can’t catch a break can they?).
But throughout it all, it seems that contrary to the previous films, Neo’s fate will be left in another’s hands, with an unnamed character explaining that “The most important choice in Neo’s life, is not his to make.” What that means exactly remains to be seen, but judging by the heavy emphasis on Trinity in this trailer, we’re betting she’s going to have something to do with that final decision.
Exciting times to be a Matrix fan no doubt. Be sure to check out the new trailer for The Matrix Resurrections below and get yourself down to the cinema when it comes out on Boxing Day.
