After a poorly received final season in 2019, the OG Game of Thrones is back in the trailer for its spinoff House of the Dragon…

Longtime fans of the popular medieval epic are engaging in mass celebrations following the release the new House of the Dragon trailer this morning, the three minute teaser suggesting a thrilling return to form for the once-beloved series.

Taking place 200 years prior to the events of Game of Thrones, the ten episode series follows King Viserys Targaryen who’s chosen as the heir of the Old King, Jaehaerys Targaryen. Naturally, as is commonly the case in Westeros, he’s almost immediately challenged, and conflict ensues.

The latest teaser for the news show however places a distinct focus on Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and her desire to sit on the Iron Throne, despite numerous detractors telling her no. There are also plenty of fight scenes, Shakespearean dialogue and some ravenous dragons (looks like HBO’s CGI budget has gotten a nice bump), all of which harkening back to the earliest (and most critically acclaimed seasons) of Game of Thrones before its quality started to decline. Only time will tell however as to whether the true spirit of the franchise has returned. HBO’s House of the Dragon premieres on HBO on August 21st. Check out the full teaser below.
