If you were a kid in the late 90s/ early 2000s, odds are you watched X-Men: The Animated Series. Actually, watched isn’t a strong enough word, more lived and breathed it, watching it day-in and day-out and having it blasting non-stop while getting ready for school in the mornings. Now, in true teaser fashion that has got our hopes up and then some, the producer for the beloved series has teased a possible revival by Disney.
Speaking last week at a virtual Wizard World panel, X-Men: The Animated Series producer and director Larry Houston addressed rumours about the series getting a revival, saying “We’ve had talks with Disney, but that’s about it. We’ve made conversation and it’s up to them to make the decision, but we’ve let them know that we’re all available for whatever they want to do in the future.”
Houston is currently retired, but he added he’d love to come back “if we could do a special, a one-off episode, or a five-part episode. Whatever they wanted to do if we had all the original team. That’s what I would come out of retirement for.” This is understandable, given the series is one of the most beloved comic book adaptations in history, and ran for five very successful seasons that never failed to have viewers on the edge of their seat.
What are you waiting for, Disney?! Now all we need is revivals for the Batman and Spiderman shows of the 90s, which would no doubt be every bit as popular now as they were then. Check a clip from the X-Men series below to get a lovely burst of nostalgia.
