Definitely has his flare for the dramatic…

Young rapper and overall creative Jaden Smith’s family is definitely making waves right now, his mother’s latest episode of Red Table Talk garnering millions of hits for her addressing her relationship with singer August Alsina. But Jaden is staying far away from the tabloids, instead making waves of his own for his latest collaboration with New Balance: the Vision Racer.

The silhouette pulls design elements from Smiths’ favourite New Balances (the 1700 and X-Racer) while fusing OG New Balance features with a “Wavy Baby Blue” colour way & ingenious construction.

Along with the mad colour, the shoe boasts an exaggerate midsole which is split into three rectangular blocks. It also features a mad mesh-and-suede upper, along with a translucent outsole. And of course, Smith’s signature is on the insoles with a classic N on the quarter panel, covered in hi-vis reflective material.

Packing upon the eye-catching appearance, the shoe puts sustainability to the forefront. The upper is crafted out of recycled polyesters and the insoles combine numerous ingredients materials from castor bean oil to recycled foam to virgin polyurethane. The midsole also works in reground EVA foam. To top it off, all materials are vegan-friendly.

Commenting on the collaboration, New Balance Chief Marketing Officer and Senior Vice President of Merchandising stated that “Shared values of transforming the status quo; staying true to oneself; giving back to community; and, respecting heritage while co-authoring a distinct future, are the foundation of the relationship between New Balance and Jaden Smith.”

The collab is set to drop on the New Balance web store July 24 for $150 USD ($216 AUD).
