She’s one of the most doted over celebrity offspring, and with two million Instagram followers, three film releases this year, and a contract with one of the most iconic French labels, Chanel, and all at the tender age of 17 years old.
But things continue to blossom for the flower-baptized celebrity, Lily-Rose Depp, who just recently posted a shot to Instagram of her latest campaign for Chanel’s newest fragrance, Chanel No.5 L’Eau. The beauty campaign features a profile shot of the fresh-faced model posing behind a bottle of the French labels newest fragrance. Depp captioned the shot “Thank you so much to the entire Chanel team for this incredible honor”, which received over 100,000 likes on Instagram.
However, it-girl Depp – who is the daughter of Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradiso – is not the only celebrity rich kid cashing in on their parent’s spotlight, with Will Smith’s spawn, Jaden Smith, 18, launching a new clothing line on his MSFTSrep site. The fashion collection, which is pronounced ‘misfits’, features a range of streetwear inspired looks, some featuring socially-conscious slogans like “Non-Violent Direct Action Program”. However it begs the question of whether these Hollywood-born kids deserve the funding and fame which comes with their celebrity namesake?
There’s no question that some celebrity offspring have grown-up to become some of the most talented and highly revered individuals in the industry – case in point is Angelina Jolie, who is the daughter of Academy-Award winning actor, Jon Voight. However there are other more questionable starlings to come out of the celebrity gene pool, one of those being Smith, whose acting and rapping chops still remain questionable.
However what’s more-alarming is the bizarre and ostentatious quotes to come out of Smith, such as those during an interview with the New York Times. “I want to do like Olympic-level things. I want to be the most durable person on the planet,” Jaden responded, when asked about his future goals.
Questions of celebrity nepotism also came into play when model, Kendall Jenner, began her rise in the ranks in the fashion industry. Jenner, 20, was originally better known as the shy sister in the Kardashian-dynasty, is now one of the popular and highest-paid models of the digital age, with annual earnings of around $4 million. So can we trust the young talent of Hollywood, or are they simply being handed the silver spoon?
