The new venture comes in the form of a subcultural capsule via online retailer END., the two apparel lords putting their heads together for a drop that reimagines the Sk8-Hi Cap and the Old Skool Cap LX.
The drop also incorporates MASTERMIND founder Masaaki Homma’s punk-styling aesthetic, the incorporation of the iconic skull logo salient throughout the various pieces of the drop. Colour-wise the capsule is on the understated and simplistic side, each shoe coming in both black and white colour ways.
Adhering to the MASTERMIND emphasis on intricacy, virtually every aspect of the Old Skool Cap LX has been reimagined. From the premium suede uppers to the incorporation of leather and canvas and the Vans Checkerboard pattern on the lateral side, it’s essentially the best of both the Vans and MASTERMIND WORLD visual palette.
Naturally, MASTERMIND WORLD’s branding is heavily present throughout as well, classic characteristics like the block letter font and the iconic MASTERMIND skull popping up all over and around the new drop.
The Sk8-Hi Cap LX receives similar treatment, skull branding taking residency on the uppers and zips as they pay homage to Homma’s sense of defiance, along with misaligned and layered foxing tape to add a sense of grit to the overall collection.
