All month long, Nike Sportswear have been celebrating the Air Max – an iconic footwear family that revolutionised the game. It was on March 26, 1987 that Tinker Hatfield debuted the bold Air Max 1 – and now that anniversary has become a global celebration for sneaker enthusiasts to flex their favourite pairs.
We were lucky enough to hold some solid Month of Max celebrations in Sydney, including a ‘Masters of Air’ panel talk, art displays and a fun run, culminating with the opening of a three-level Air Max Lab in Surry Hills on March 26. Air Max Day offered Sydneysiders a custom dubrae service, sneaker cleaning and Halfway Crooks on the decks, while the top level featured the country’s premium collectors displaying their most coveted and rare Air Max models.
We’ve been joining in on the Air Max mania, and to close the Month of Max, we present this little video highlighting the history of the sneaker and its rise to global, iconic stature.
