In some classic Hollywood casting news that seems to have popped up out of nowhere, Barack Obama has given his backing for Drake to play him in a biopic, helping the ‘In My Feelings’ rapper bag a role he’s had his eye on for eight years.
Speaking on the role of a lifetime in 2012, Drizzy didnt shy away from his aspirations, saying “I hope somebody makes a movie about Obama’s life soon because I could play him. That’s the goal. I watch all the addresses. Any time I seen him on TV, I don’t change the channel. I definitely pay attention and listen to the inflections of his voice.
“Slowly but surely, I’m not in the study mode because nobody’s called me about anything, but I just pay attention so when the day comes I’m not scrambling to learn how to speak like him.”
Now, it seems Obama is totally on board with the idea, saying in a recent interview with Complex when asked about Drake playing him “I will say this, Drake seems to be able to do anything he wants. I mean, that is a talented brother. If the time comes, and he’s ready… Drake has – more importantly – my household’s stamp of approval. I suspect Malia and Sasha would be just fine with it.”
Damn, that’s huge for Drake. Not gonna lie we assumed Will Smith had been in line for this for ages now, confirming on The Graham Norton Show in 2019 that he and Obama had actually even talked about it, and that Obama had already ‘handpicked’ him.
Regardless of who plays him, Obama’s biopic is surely set to be the biopic of all time. If you’re having a bit of trouble trying to visualise Drake as Obama, we’ve got you. Or more accurately, Drake has got you, posting a pic of him morphed into Obama on his IG way back in 2017. Check it below.
