Having pulled out of Splendour In The Grass at the last minute back in 2019, it’s safe to say that Chance The Rapper hasn’t been the most popular artist with Aussie music fans over the past few years – whether the dislike is justified or not is another conversation. But now, he’s announced he’ll be touching down in Oz next month as part of SXSW Sydney.
The kicker, of course, is that he hasn’t announced any performances, and (at this stage) will be speaking at the event only. “As we celebrate 50 years of Hip Hop in 2023, I’m reminded of the transformative power this culture has had, not just on the world stage, but on the streets of Chicago’s South Side. Hip-hop has provided a rhythm to our stories and a canvas for our creativity. I’m really looking forward to joining SXSW Sydney as a speaker to expound upon Hip Hop’s transcendent legacy,” he said in a statement.

Chance joins the mammoth lineup of 1000+ events covering tech and innovation, games, screen, culture, and music. There’ll be over 300 mind-bending panels and sessions, we’re talking brain-computer interfaces, lab-grown meat, and the ethics of AI. 300+ performances by artists who are about to blow up worldwide. We’re talking TikTok sensation Flyana Boss, the multi-talented Isyana Sarasvati, the punk rock rebels Otoboke Beaver, and more. The SXSW Sydney Screen Festival has it all – red carpet premieres, XR showcases, parties, and a Screen market. Oh, and did we mention the world premiere of Hot Potato: The Story of the Wiggles?
Plus, the event is sponsored by Young Henrys, so you know there’ll be some tasty beverages flowing throughout, like that new Hazy Pale Ale. Yum. Badges open doors to everything, including a chance to rub shoulders with Chance The Rapper. Head here for more badge and wristband info.
