After a whopping 28 years together, Grammy-winning duo and one of the greatest EDM acts of all time Daft Punk has announced they have broken up. The news has come seemingly out of nowhere, with the band dropping a surprise 8-minute video titled ‘Epilogue’ to announce the move.
The clip, which takes inspiration from their 2006 film Electroma, sees the pair walk into a field, with one member placing an explosive device on the other. After the timer reaches zero, the bomb explodes, with a message on the screen appearing that says ‘1993-2021.’
And no, there’s no chance this is a stunt or some Weeknd-esque promotional strategy to drum up buzz for new music, with their publicist confirming that they indeed parted ways, with no apparent reason offered.
Daft Punk leaves behind an enduring legacy, releasing classic albums like Homework, Discovery, Human After All and the legendary Random Access Memories that all went up to light up the EDM stratosphere. They’ve also been responsible for some of the most groundbreaking live shows in memory and hav soundtracked numerous films.
Pretty crazy stuff, we’ll definitely miss the pair and all of their many bangers. Check out the announcement of their break up and some of the many reactions online below.

For a young kid with an inexplicable love of synths and dance music in rural Indiana Daft Punk changed absolutely everything for me.

In a shocking twist, the band that wore masks for thirty years doesn’t make it through the pandemic.
