Ever wanted to see Drake perform while surrounded by 1000 kinetic purple spheres? The wait is nearly over.

While Drake’s Boy Meets World Australian tour was confirmed last month, it was a few weeks prior to that when the news was actually leaked by Steve Kidd, Drake’s set designer for the past few years. This man and his team have been responsible for Drizzy’s most elaborate stage designs, and Aussie promoters Mushroom have now caught up with Kidd to give us insights into what to expect visually on Drake’s upcoming dates.

For the first time in history, Drake will perform on a 360 degree stage, consisting of three ‘inner circles’ to give a view for every punter in attendance. “We’re allowing everyone to be as intimate as possible and allowing Drake to do what he does best – work the entire arena… He’s an athlete on stage and it’s our job to create a field for him to work on,” Kidd says.

Furthermore, exclusive to Australia and New Zealand, Drake’s show will feature “1000 kinetic spheres suspended from a giant truss that hugs the entire arena.” The spheres are made from resin and hold a battery and LED chip inside. controlled by WiFi, and give a floating illusion at the show. “The higher you get up the more you get to see and that’s the greatest thing about how the kinetics work, every seat in the house has a different visual area,” Kidd says.

Lighting Director and Designer, Guy Pavelo also has some good news – saying that Drake’s famed illuminated globe will be heading Down Under. When we saw Drake in Paris, he performed in front of its magnificent glow, and Aussies will be treated to the oversized prop on the tour. “This time everything is out in the open. Drake loves the super clean, sharp line approach on everything so there’s so many effects coming from different angles that nobody will know where they’re coming from,” Pavelo says. “Australia is going to be the first time the world has seen the kinetic system at this level before.”

Mushroom state that it’s going to take “two 747 aircrafts and a fleet of 30 plus trucks” of crew to bring Drake’s show to life, so it sounds larger than life. Tickets for Drake’s shows go on sale today – find times for your city right here. Good luck!
