Continuing on her seemingly never-ending winning streak, Melbourne multi-instrumentalist G Flip has today shared her new single ‘Not Even In Vegas.’ Linking up with fellow Melbourne singer-songwriter Thomas Headon, the tune sees the ‘Queen’ singer explore the silver linings of a global pandemic, along with the ability to bring the party to wherever you’re at, even rural NSW.
The track fuses the sonic palettes of indie and pop, gentle synths and key lines juxtaposed with acoustic guitars, steady drums and one very satisfying saxophone. Vocally the two share the stage seamlessly, interjecting on each other’s verses as they really drive home the fact that this is a duet. Their voices go together pretty breezily as well, Thomas Headon’s gritty tenor growls complimenting G Flip’s sunshine-infused tones as well as you could hope for.
It seems the musical chemistry is inspired by real life friendship, with G Flip explaining “When me and Thomas met we both instantly matched each other’s energy and had a lot of stuff in common. We joked about booking a mates trip to Vegas but because of covid there were no flights available so I booked us flights to Dubbo instead – because when Tommy and I are together we can make anywhere feel like Vegas, even rural NSW.
“After a few sessions we wrote this track – it’s a feel good song about having a good time no matter where you are— whether that be your friend’s apartment, your own room, or even in VEGAS/DUBBO” with Headon adding “It’s a fun little tune that describes both of our friendship so well, hopefully we at least get to go to Vegas together one day.”
Definitely a good ballad for your Friday morning. Be sure to check out the BTS video for the track above and of course, check out ‘Not Even In Vegas’ below.
