No laughing matter.

Here’s what went down on the ‘Post Humorous’ set.

Have you been wondering where the clip for Gus Dapperton’s shimmering indie bop ‘Post Humorous’ has been hiding? It turns out that Gus and director/collaborator Matthew Dillon Cohen had been planning on shooting the video a few months ago but were only forced to put production on pause thanks to COVID-19, but the wait is now over.

Premiering last night in the US, the visuals see Dapperton trying his hand at stand-up comedy, before getting himself into a little bit of mischief with some muscle. It’s highly stylised and shot with a cinematic touch that sees sweeping shots and crafty lighting meld with unique characters and revealing close-ups. In short, it was definitely worth the wait.

The track is taken from Dapperton’s forthcoming 10-track LP Orca, due out September 18th (pre-order here), which is said to delve into some darker moments, based on some experiences whilst touring his 2018 record Where Polly People Go to Read.

“I was unbalanced,” he recalls. “My lifestyle and habits had gotten extreme. I wasn’t getting eight hours of sleep a night, I was drinking and doing drugs often. Wasn’t eating healthy. And on top of it, I was performing. A show can be the most inspirational, emotional high; but if something goes wrong it can be devastating.”

For now, check out some of the BTS shots from the ‘Post Humorous’ shoot below, along with some captions from Gus himself:

These are some of the crew members hanging right before we started setting up!

This is the 3rd outfit and unfortunately in the video I had to take the jacket off. It was too hard to move around in.

This is the first look and I’m just starting to get into it. Probably was a bit nervous in this.

This was the second look we did for the shoot and the second lighting setup. The change in style and lighting is supposed to show the passing of time and the confidence I gain as the video moves on.

These are some cast members acting as the audience for my “comedy” routine.

This photo is sweet. Back in the second outfit here with the blue lights.

The guy I’m sitting next to was hilarious and really hyped me up to get into character.
