There’s so many exiting hip-hop artists hitting Australia in the coming months that we decided to wrap up 10 of our most essential!

From internationals to locals and OGs to newcomers, please get yourself to these shows by any means necessary. Sell your organs for tickets or ask your mother to take you – just get yourself in the goddamn venue:

METHOD MAN & REDMAN

The mischievous duo are back! While Method Man didn’t make it to Wu-Tang Clan’s Australian tour earlier this year, he will be arriving Down Under with his longtime partner-in-crime Redman to perform bangers exclusively from the classic Blackout! and Blackout! 2 albums. The chemistry between these two is undeniable, whether that’s on record or on the big screen for How High – we’re expecting a very entertaining night.

ASAP FERG

There’s few rappers who get the dancefloor heaving harder than ASAP Ferg – just witness the chaos that ensues whenever ‘Work (Remix)’ or ‘Shabba’ drop – which is why we’re so glad that Harlem’s flyest will be returning to Australia once more. It’s been a long road since he first supported ASAP Rocky on our stages several years back – Ferg is now a headline artist in his own right, with two albums of club-heavy bangers and a French Montana feature under his belt. Start flexing those trap arms.

TRAVIS SCOTT

Rap fashionistas let out squeals of excitement when Travis Scott was announced as a late addition to the Listen Out lineup, and it’s hard to think of a more hyped rapper given the omnipresence of ‘Antidote’ and more recently, the simply irresistible ‘Pick Up The Phone’ alongside Young Thug and Quavo. With his album Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight
still undergoing delays, let’s hope that this isn’t a Frank Ocean situation and that it arrives before the Australian tour takes place.

HORRORSHOW & B WISE

Sydney hip-hop legends Horrorshow will be hitting the road this October to promote their new single ‘If You Know What I Mean’ – already one of our favourite tunes of the year with its nonchalant production, soothing hook and shout-outs to the Inner-West. The duo will also be joined by B Wise, South-West Sydney’s own emerging talent who will drop his Semi Pro EP in September. This makes for a stellar showcase of local talent and two generations of Elefant Traks stars.

TKAY MAIDZA

Tkay Maidza already had a huge international collaboration with catchy summer anthem ‘Do It Right’ alongside Martin Solveig, and yesterday she revealed ‘Carry On’ with the very notable addition of ATL legend Killer Mike! The single coincided with the revelation that her debut album, the aptly and succinctly titled TKAY will be released on October 28. It’s been a meteoric rise so far for the Adelaide queen, and we’re sure she’ll continue upwards from here with a headline tour and a slot at Field Day.

Widely hailed as one of the most exciting groups to hit the Australian hip-hop scene in years, Remi will be releasing another album of soulful, introspective rhymes with Divas & Demons this September. They’ll be backing it up with a headline tour alongside compadre Baro, with the two parties collaborating on the fierce ‘Fuck The Judge’ earlier this year. Stay tuned to LWA for our in-depth chat with Remi dropping this week.

CHILDISH GAMBINO

With his huge crossover appeal and flirtations with the mainstream as an actor, it’s no wonder that Childish Gambino has been hand-picked as a headliner for Australia’s 2016/2017 transition festivities. He was named as the initial headliner for Falls Festival alongside London Grammer, and just yesterday it was announced that Sydneysiders will get a dose of Donald Glover on NYD. By then, his new album Pharos will have arrived on our earholes!

CHANCE THE RAPPER

Chance The Rapper dropped one of the year’s most acclaimed releases with Coloring Book back in May – and even more impressively, it was only a mixtape. Throw in his show-stopping verse from Kanye West’s ‘Ultralight Beam’, and it’s no wonder that Lord Yeezus named his Chicago colleague as ‘the future’. With three huge festival dates slated for the young talent, it’ll be a good opportunity to see the rap’s most exciting in a grandiose environment.

Origin NYE dates:

GOLDLINK

Having worked with everyone from Chet Faker to Rick Rubin, GoldLink represents a young wave of emcees who aren’t afraid to experiment with sound with a disregard for genre – meaning that he has plenty of crossover appeal with indie kids and music aficionados. Having already toured Australia on the festival circuit as part of Laneway, we’re sure that GoldLink will bring unlimited vibes to his appearances at Beyond The Valley and Origin NYE.

ASAP ROCKY

Okay, it’s a bit of a stretch to call this a tour – it’s actually an exclusive Australian appearance – but Pretty Flacko will be heading Down Under or one show at Perth’s Origin NYE festival. There’s plenty of Australian ASAP disciples who are currently crying or looking up cheap flights over to the West Coast, while Origin NYE have locked in a mighty special treat for their punters following Rocky’s last tour in February alongside Raury.
