Over the past 18 months, Keep Sydney Open have held various rallies and events that have stopped the city and grabbed national headlines, all in defiance of the lockout laws.

Since then, the group has evolved to address issues of over-development, and the New South Wales government putting big businesses first – and they’re looking to take it to the next level by running for parliament. The questions of whether Keep Sydney Open should make this political move was put to the group’s Facebook followers yesterday via video, where group founder Tyson Koh addressed the current situation:

“Since our campaign began, we have made good progress in opening up Sydney’s nightlife once more. This progress, however, has been slow and the government is not doing all it can to improve the situation. Adding to this the interests of developers and big business, we fear it will take years to make real change,” they said. “Running for parliament is a way of ensuring our voices can’t be ignored.”

In order to run for parliament, Keep Sydney Open require 750 registered members to sign up, and you can do so right here. Moreover, Keep Sydney Open will be throwing their ‘Meet Me In Darlo‘ party this weekend, which will celebrate local talent at the suburb’s premier venues, from William Street to Oxford Street and beyond. There, you’ll also be able to sign up as a member.

Will you vote for KSO? Hear more about the proposal here, and head down to ‘Meet Me In Darlo’ this Saturday:
