Life in lockdown for some artists has been pretty flat, with the seemingly endless days spent inside providing little in creative inspiration or drive. For Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern AKA SOFI TUKKER, hanging out at home has proved to be one of the more fruitful patches of their career so far, with the duo dropping daily DJ sets for fans who have in turn elevated their new single ‘House Arrest’ to insta-classic status.
The track, which features the UK’s Gorgon City, is currently the most-played track on triple j, with Aussie listeners who are still unable to enjoy clubs and festivals due to coronavirus feeling it in a big way. The tune which sways between euphoric troughs and unrelenting bars, allows Hawley-Weld’s vocals to take centre stage delivering a typically infectious hook.
“We started this song on ‘House Tuesday’: a gathering of the homies every Tuesday to have fun and improvise house music,” the duo say of ‘House Arrest’. “We originally didn’t intend to make a song but we loved what we were doing so much that we recorded it. Eventually, we sent it to Gorgon City because we thought they were just what it needed to make it perfect.”
