It’s been busy times with two of Sydney’s most exciting crews from the suburbs, Bodega Collective and Mozaick Records.

Between them, they’ve released heaters from hard-nosed, hyperactive rappers like Kwame and Raj Mahal, to more lush sounds from Phil Fresh and Mel Bailey, as well as throwing one hell of a monthly party called Ice Cream (which does include free ice cream, if you’re wondering) at The Lord Gladstone. Now, the like-minded teams have teamed up in a slick joint venture from emerging R&B singer Kymie.

After snatching attention for her singles ‘Suffering from You’ and ‘Wrapped Around,’ Kymie has returned with her third effort in ‘Deeper.’ Centred around a sweet hook that’s bound to get stuck in your head for hours, the track lets Kymie’s vocals take centre stage, while the swirling production courtesy of Yeah Fresh (Kwame, Nikos & Xiro) gives the track a contemporary edge.

Kymie’s voice has all the appeal of throwback R&B, but you could still imagine her on a thumping club crossover or more upbeat tracks. That’s something she’s already touched on in her concise catalogue, but we’d like to hear more! With leading ladies like SZA, Jhene Aiko and Tinashe already carving that path internationally, it’s clear that we’ve got plenty of talent in our own backyard.
