Sydney indie five-piece Wild Honey are back, offering us the first taste of their upcoming debut album with a new single ‘Break Away.’

“After my Nan died, I just couldn’t seem to adjust. I didn’t want to spend the rest of my life working in a job that failed to satisfy me, and really only served to cover the rent. I want to believe there is more to life than that, and it’s up to us to go and make that happen,” frontman Thom Moore says of the song. It’s an all too familiar moment that all musicians have to ponder – the seemingly eternal balance between creative expression and financial responsibility – especially in Sydney’s dire post-lockout landscape.

Listening to ‘Break Away’ makes Wild Honey’s mission clear: They won’t take no for an answer. Filled with sunny riffs and a wildly infectious hook, it’s a single that’s brimming with auspicious energy and a promising sign for the band’s full-length. ‘Break Away’ was produced by Jack Moffitt, guitarist for fellow local talents The Preatures, while Doug Boehm (Girls, Dune Rats) mixed the track.

Fittingly, the single will be launching at the freshly-renovated Lansdowne Hotel on July 29, where Wild Honey will be performing alongside Planet & Sunscreen. With the venue’s intense focus on local talent and live music, we can’t think of a better place to officially welcome Wild Honey’s new jam in their first headline show in 2017. Get your first listen to ‘Break Away’ below, while the track will be appearing on iTunes and Spotify from Wednesday, July 5th.
