Having dropped his self-titled debut album in 2018, which spawned delightful tunes such as ‘Liquor Train’ and ‘Cobra Woman’, and showcwased his unique vocal styling that feels like a warm and sexy hug (yes, that’s a thing), Bodie has today returned with his first new music of the year. Safe to say, we’ve been sorely missing the way his tracks lyrically captivate, whilst musically suck us in with smooth bass lines, silky guitar and honeyed vocals.
The Newcastle artist, who looks like he stepped out of the set of Puberty Blues with his long beachy locks and cheeky mo, has seemingly mastered finding the perfect balance between soul and sweetness while recording and writing in his sunroom of his beachside sharehouse. ‘Mask’ which drops tomorrow, sees him venture further into R&B territory that we only glimpsed on Bodie, illustrating a clear desire to continue to push his music into different directions.
Interestingly, the cover is a Polaroid he took when he was 18-years-old which reflects the notions of growth explored in the songs lyrics. “Maybe it’s not saying or standing up for the right things at the right time. Sometimes I just lose my head altogether and don’t think at all, but it’s part of learning to be a better person I guess,” Bodie says. “There is a saxophone feature from Ta’sia but the rest is me. I put countless, rentless hours and years of my heart and life into this song.”
We hear that this is just the start of a big project, so keep your ears open for more Bodie in 2021.
