And it comes in the form of their latest singles titled ‘Stranger Days’ and ‘December,’ along with a music video for the former. OG and new fans alike are well looked after between the pair of tunes, the quintessential Skegss sound alive as singer lead singer Benny crafts a double love letter to Aussie resilience and summer.
The ‘Stranger Days’ clip, directed by Jamieson Kerr, sees the gang of larrikins prep for a marathon, or more specifically, help drummer Jonny prepare for one, by feeding him countless Bevs from their local. But of course, we get plenty of shots of old mate running throughout open fields and hills, with every stop off involving a schooner or five (XXXX is the new Powerade apparently).
Once Jonny’s starts legs start tiring in the clip however, the impact of the song’s lyrics really shine through, encouraging old mate to push on, further enhanced by the shots we get of the trio jamming out the tune in a concert hall. The motivational aspect of the tune seems to be design however, with lead singer Benny explaining, “I wrote it a while ago about being in a mood where its epic to try and ride out your ambitions and try and always look back when you kook it at life, and say I will try to be better, be a better friend, better partner, get better at getting better.”
The second offering comes in the form of ‘December’, their love letter to Aussie summer and Chrissy. As the name suggests, the tune was written during Holiday season last year and was inspired by a night at the pub (of course), with Benny explaining, “Having beers down at the local pub on Chrissy Eve and just seeing the crew you grew up with. It’s epic the years when everyone is in town for it, it’s not even Christmas Day, it’s just the whole summer period.” The sonics of the tune match the sentiments of nostalgia in the lyrics, light-hearted guitar lines and emotive organs laying a good groundwork for Benny’s vocals as he sings lines like, “You don’t know how much I miss this/I’m just so glad it’s Christmas.”
Needless to say, if you’re planning on preparing for a marathon any time soon or are just feeling nostalgic at the local, both ‘Stranger Days’ and ‘December’ are more than ready to soundtrack your inevitable schooner downing in both situations.
