But just as notable as the trap trio was their special guest, 6lack, another talent from Atlanta’s bubbling pool of hip-hop talents, also making his debut Australian visit. A former battle rapper, 6lack burst into the spotlight with his hazy R&B single ‘Prblms,’ displaying his versatile skill set in ominous fashion. Add in studio sessions with Gucci Mane, tours alongside The Weeknd, and a commendable debut album in Free 6lack, and he’s one of the most promising talents to emerge from the Southern city in recent times.
With 6lack’s arrivial in Sydney, we headed along to an empty Hordern Pavilion for soundcheck and an interview with the man himself to talk about his roots in rap, the art of performance, and the current political climate in America. Just a few hours later, 6lack took the stage with a commanding performance, where his lo-fi, down-tempo catalogue still had the crowd jumping in awe.
We can’t wait to see what 6lack does next.
